On today’s date (12-07-18), at approximately 2:00am, officers on patrol in the Avery Park subdivision spotted a black Nissan Armada that matched the description of a suspect vehicle from a recent tailgate theft. That same vehicle had also been called in earlier in the morning as a suspicious vehicle in the Gruene area, so officers conducted a traffic stop and discovered a total of 5 tailgates in the back of the vehicle (all from Ford F250 Super Duty trucks). Officers also recovered tools and masks that the suspects used while carrying out their criminal activity. The female driver and male passenger were then taken into custody and transported to the Comal County Jail.

The investigation into this case continues and additional charges may be forthcoming. NBPD would like to take this opportunity to remind drivers of pickup trucks (especially newer model trucks) that tailgate thefts are on the rise and they should take steps to avoid becoming a victim. That includes parking in well-lit areas, using tailgate locks on their trucks, and utilizing surveillance systems outside their homes.
