On today’s date, at approximately 4:30am, officers with the New Braunfels Police Department were called to the Caprock subdivision off of Hwy 46 South for reports of a suspicious person possibly tampering with the community mailboxes.
Officers arrived in the area and located the vehicle, described by witnesses as an older model black Jeep Wrangler. A traffic stop was conducted and officers made contact with the 42-year old female driver and could immediately see that the vehicle was filled with several hundred packages, envelopes, and other mail. Based on the addresses from that mail it was determined that the items had been taken from both the Caprock subdivision and the Legend Pond subdivision off of West Klein Road in New Braunfels. The female was also found to be in possession of methamphetamines, and so she was taken into custody.
The NBPD Criminal Investigations Division (C.I.D.) then made contact with the Office of the Inspector General for the United States Postal Service in San Antonio, and those investigators have taken over the portion of the investigation dealing with the theft of mail, to include possible federal charges.
The suspect, identified as 42-year old Lana Krupka of San Antonio, has since been transported to the Guadalupe County Jail and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance (Penalty Group 1 - >=1G<4G). As of this release, bond had not yet been set.
Any questions regarding the mail theft investigation should be directed to the Office of the Inspector General (O.I.G.) for the United States Postal Service (U.S.P.S.).
