On today’s date (05-30-19), at approximately 6:30pm, the New Braunfels Police Department and the New Braunfels Fire Department were called to the 1200 block of North Walnut Avenue for a major accident. Officers and paramedics arrived on scene and found that a 1994 Honda Accord had struck a 2018 Jeep Wrangler head-on.
The driver of the Jeep Wrangler, a 47-year old female from Spring Branch, suffered non-life threatening injuries in the crash and was transported to Christus Santa Rosa Hospital New Braunfels by ground EMS. The driver of the Honda Accord, a 34-year old male from New Braunfels, suffered critical life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to the Seton Medical Center Hays hospital in critical condition.
The NBPD Traffic Unit responded to the scene and is investigating the cause of the crash. The preliminary results of that investigation indicate that the driver of the Honda Accord crossed the center-line into oncoming traffic, causing the head-on collision with the Jeep Wrangler. The investigation is ongoing and a determination about whether charges will be filed may be forthcoming.
That area of Walnut Avenue, between Grandview Avenue and Woodland Avenue, was completely closed for approximately 3 hours while crews conducted their on-scene investigation. NBPD appreciates the patience of those that were re-routed to nearby roads during that time.
