On today’s date (01-25-20), at approximately 6:45am, the New Braunfels Police Department and the New Braunfels Fire Department were called to the 4800 block of Northbound I-35 (directly across from the Walmart Distribution Center) for reports of a motorcycle accident.
Officers arrived and located a male motorcycle rider who was deceased from injuries sustained during the crash. The motorcyclist has since been identified as 30-year old Tyler Muennink of New Braunfels. Next of kin has been notified. Justice of the Peace for Pct. 1 Tom Clark pronounced the victim deceased and ordered an autopsy.
The NBPD Traffic Unit shut down all of Northbound I-35 in the area in order to fully investigate the fatality crash. That process took approximately 4 hours. The initial results of the investigation indicate that the motorcyclist, who was not wearing a helmet, lost control and laid the bike down, causing him to be struck by two oncoming vehicles. The drivers of those vehicles were not injured and are not facing any criminal charges. Speed, alcohol, and/or drugs do not appear to be factors in this crash.
NBPD appreciates the patience of area drivers and the inconvenience the closure of the highway may have caused as the investigation was underway.
