On today’s date (07-01-20), at approximately 1:00am, officers with the New Braunfels Police Department and paramedics with the New Braunfels Fire Department responded to a call for a gunshot victim in the 300 block of Castlewood Dr. at the Gruenewood Villa Apartments. Officers arrived and found a 27-year old male inside an apartment and suffering from a single gunshot wound to the chest. The victim was immediately transported by ground EMS to the San Antonio Military Medical Center (SAMMC) in stable condition.
Detectives with NBPD’s Criminal Investigation Division and technicians from NBPD’s Crime Scene Unit began their investigation into the incident. The preliminary results of that investigation indicate that the victim was shot by a male suspect and that the two knew each other prior to the shooting. Initially it was believed that the suspect had fled the scene on foot into the nearby neighborhood and so officers, including K-9, began searching the area on foot until it was learned that the suspect had actually fled the scene in a vehicle. Initial efforts to locate that vehicle were unsuccessful.
Based on the results of the preliminary investigation, detectives were able to obtain an arrest warrant for the suspect. On today’s date (07-01-20), at approximately 12:20pm, officers with the New Braunfels Police Department and the Comal County Metro Narcotics Task Force located the suspect at a gas station in the 3000 block of FM 725 and he was taken into custody without incident. 24-year old Colton Hurley Young of New Braunfels was then transported to the Comal County Jail and charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon Causing Bodily Injury, a 2nd degree felony. Bond for that charge has been set at $20,000. The investigation into this incident is ongoing and additional charges may be pending.
