On December 29th, 2020, at approximately 11:45pm, the New Braunfels Police Department and the New Braunfels Fire Department responded to the intersection of South Business 35 and McQueeney Road for a report of a single vehicle rollover accident.
Officers arrived to find that a Ford Explorer had lost control and rolled over, injuring the four adult occupants of the vehicle, including the male driver who was ejected during the crash.
The two rear seat occupants, a 36-year old female from Cibolo and a 41-year old male from San Antonio, suffered minor injuries in the crash and were transported to area hospitals as a precaution.
The front seat passenger, a 47-year old female from Lubbock, suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries in the crash and was transported to Seton Hays Hospital for treatment.
The male driver, who was ejected from the vehicle, was being transported to an area hospital when he succumbed to his injuries and died. He has since been identified as 47-year old Carlye James Donaldson of San Antonio. Next of kin has been notified. Justice of the Peace for Pct. 3 Mike Rust has ordered an autopsy.
The NBPD Traffic Unit was called to the scene to conduct a full accident reconstruction investigation. The preliminary results of that investigation indicate that speed, alcohol, and drugs may have been contributing factors in this crash.
