City of New Braunfels Announces Fire Chief Finalists

After a nationwide search, the City of New Braunfels has announced that two finalists have been selected in the search for a Fire Chief.

The City was assisted in this search by Strategic Government Resources (SGR), an executive recruitment firm based in Keller, Texas, which conducted an extensive search that resulted in an impressive pool of diverse and qualified candidates.

“It’s an exciting time for the New Braunfels Fire Department, with two new fire stations coming online this year as well as plans for future growth already in the works,” said New Braunfels City Manager Robert Camareno. “The City is pleased to introduce these two finalists to the New Braunfels community.”

The finalists are:

  • Gregory Rodgers is a 39-year veteran of the fire service with experience serving in increasingly more demanding leadership roles throughout his career. He is currently serving as the Assistant Fire Chief with the City of Schertz. He began his career in the Town of Hollywood Park Fire Department, in Hollywood Park, Texas, and then spent 31 years with the City of College Station Fire Department. Rodgers has a Bachelor’s Degree in Emergency Management Administration and a Masters of Business Administration. He is a graduate of the Texas Fire Chief’s Academy and a Center for Public Safety Excellence Peer Assessor.
  • Ruy Lozano has 25 years of experience in a large metropolitan fire department and has served the department in variety of ways including public relations and budget management. He has spent his career with the Houston Fire Department beginning in 1996 and is currently serving as an Assistant Fire Chief. Lozano has a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, a Masters of Business Administration, and is a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserves. He is also a Texas Commission on Fire Protection Master Firefighter and Fire Instructor, and is a Center of Public Safety Excellence Peer Assessor.

These finalists will visit New Braunfels on March 9th and 10th in order to tour the community, visit with Fire Department personnel, meet members of New Braunfels City Council, and continue the interview process with panels consisting of the members of the Fire Department and other City staff.
