New Braunfels Public Library Recognized for Outstanding Service

The New Braunfels Public Library has received the Achievement of Excellence in Libraries award from the Texas Municipal Library Director’s Association for demonstrating consistent excellence and outstanding contributions to public library services in the community. This is the sixth year in a row the library has been recognized with this award by the TMLDA.

“With the COVID-19 pandemic severely limiting library services delivered in person, library staff really stepped up and went above and beyond to meet the criteria for the award,” said Library Director Gretchen Pruett. “New Braunfels is very blessed to have such an innovative and hardworking library team.”

According to the Texas State Library and Archives Commission, 568 public libraries exist in Texas. The New Braunfels Public Library is one of only 56 to earn the 2020 award, placing it in the top 10% of all public libraries in the state. To receive the award, the libraries must demonstrate excellence in each of 10 categories:

  1. Services to underserved populations either through outreach, special programs, collaborations with other libraries or organizations, special classes, special collections, etc.
  2. Enhanced service to the public during the past year either through increase in service or a change in type of services
  3. Innovative and effective current marketing materials highlighting basic services and publicity about specific programs the library offers
  4. Cultural, topical, and educational programming for adults and families
  5. Literacy support for all ages
  6. A youth, teen and/or adult Summer Reading Program
  7. Collaborative efforts with community organizations
  8. Workforce development support
  9. Digital inclusion support by providing public internet access, digital literacy training, and offering library services online
  10. Professional staff training for staff at all levels
