On today’s date (04-08-21) at approximately 5:45pm, the New Braunfels Police Department and the New Braunfels Fire Department were called to the intersection of Hwy 46 West at Oak Run Point for reports of a motorcycle accident.
A Comal County Sheriff’s Office deputy was nearby, quickly arrived on scene, and immediately began lifesaving measures; however, the driver of the motorcycle succumbed to his injuries while police and paramedics arrived.
The New Braunfels Police Department Traffic Unit was called to the scene to conduct a complete accident reconstruction investigation. The preliminary results of that investigation indicate that the male motorcyclist, who was wearing a helmet, was inbound on Hwy 46 West when there was a collision between the motorcycle and a pickup truck. The force of that collision caused the motorcyclist to veer into the opposite lanes of traffic where he was struck by two oncoming passenger cars.
The driver of the motorcycle has been identified as 38-year old Russell Camp III of New Braunfels. Next of kin has been notified and an autopsy has been ordered by Comal County Justice of the Peace for Pct. 2 Rick Walker. The 51-year old female driver of one of the vehicles that struck the motorcycle was also taken to Christus New Braunfels Hospital with minor, non life-threatening injuries sustained during the crash.
Outbound traffic on Hwy 46 West was closed for approximately 4½ hours while the investigation was underway and while the scene was cleared of debris. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in this crash and no charges are expected to be filed as a result of this incident.
