UPDATE: A suspect from Saturday’s fatality hit and run accident on I-35 has been arrested. Thanks to tips from the public as well as the investigation by officers at the scene, the vehicle that struck and killed the pedestrian truck driver was located and the driver of that vehicle was taken into custody. Within hours of the accident, 29-year old Bradley Knight was arrested without incident at his home in the 100 block of Granite Run in New Braunfels and transported to the Comal County Jail where he was charged with Accident Involving Death. His bond was set at $25,000, which he has since posted.

The victim from Saturday’s crash has since been identified as 54-year old Jim Newcomer from Dale, Texas, and next of kin has been notified.

The New Braunfels Police Department would like to thank all those that provided tips during this investigation and waited patiently in traffic while crews fully investigated the scene.

ORIGINAL RELEASE: The New Braunfels Police Department is seeking the public’s help in locating a vehicle involved in a hit and run fatality traffic accident.

On today’s date (09-11-21) at approximately 8:30am, officers were called to the 1000 block of I-35 North (northbound mainlanes) at Hwy 46 for a report of a pedestrian accident on the highway. Officers arrived and found that the driver of an 18-wheeler had pulled over onto the shoulder of the highway and was standing near the back left corner of the trailer when he was struck by a vehicle traveling northbound. That vehicle, a silver 4-door Dodge Neon, attempted to swerve away from the trailer on the shoulder and struck the driver (as well as the back of the 18-wheeler) with the back right passenger side of the sedan.

The driver of the 18-wheeler, a 54-year old male from Dale, Texas, died in that collision. His identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The driver of the sedan did not stop to render aid and now the New Braunfels Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating the vehicle. Again, the suspect vehicle is described as a silver 4-door Dodge Neon, possibly a 2001 to 2005 model. The vehicle will have significant damage to the right back passenger side. Anyone with information about the location of this vehicle or its driver should call 911 or the New Braunfels Police Department at 830-221-4100.
