On today’s date (02-03-22), at approximately 2:25pm, the New Braunfels Police Department and the New Braunfels Fire Department were called to the 800 block of Hwy 46 South at River Tree Dr. for reports of a single vehicle traffic accident. Officers and paramedics arrived on the scene to find a Ford F150 pickup truck that had been traveling in the wrong lanes of traffic (heading northbound in the southbound lanes of travel) when the truck left the roadway, traveled on the grassy shoulder, and struck a utility pole, ejecting the driver.
The driver, identified as 69-year old Kennon Mulhollan of New Braunfels, was pronounced deceased at the scene by Justice of the Peace for Pct. 3 Mike Rust. Next of kin has been notified.
The NBPD Traffic Unit had all of Hwy 46 South at River Tree closed for approximately 5 hours for the fatality traffic investigation and also so that crews could make repairs to a traffic signal that was damaged in the crash. The cause of the accident remains under investigation; however, preliminarily it does not appear that weather conditions played a role in the crash.
