The temporary lifting of the quiet zones came after a recent inspection identified those crossings as out of compliance with federal regulations. In response, the City contracted with a specialist, developed a plan, and brought those crossings back into compliance. That work included striping and the extension of curbs near those crossings. In addition, the City is proactively inspecting the remaining 15 railroad crossings and making similar repairs to ensure that they meet federal standards.
