On today’s date (01-16-24), at approximately 2:00am, the New Braunfels Fire Department was called to the 600 block of Creekside Way for reports of a structure fire inside an unoccupied apartment unit at the Avenues at Creekside apartment complex. Firefighters arrived to find an active fire in the kitchen of that apartment which was already being held in check by the sprinkler system, and they were able to quickly extinguish the remaining fire.
One apartment unit sustained fire damage and five other units sustained smoke and water damage, displacing a total of four people who are now being assisted by the Red Cross with shelter and other needs. A 70-year old female resident was treated for smoke inhalation and was transported from the scene as a precaution.
Firefighters remained on scene until approximately 5:20am. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the New Braunfels Fire Marshal’s Office, but the preliminary investigation indicates that the fire was accidental in nature.
