This May, the City of New Braunfels’ signature downtown festival returns for its 21st year…but the event has a new name! Now simply known as Saengerfest, this free music festival is set for Saturday, May 4th, 2024, from 12pm to 9:30pm in historic downtown New Braunfels. As in years past, residents and visitors are invited to wander throughout downtown while listening to live music, sampling wine and craft beer, shopping at a variety of storefronts and street merchants, participating in family-friendly activities, and munching on snacks from local food trucks and restaurants.
Saengerfest is a free event, featuring live music on two stages, including back-to-back headliners on the Main Stage with artists like Jessee Lee, Squeezebox Bandits, Zach Walther Band, and Shinyribs. There’s also a second stage featuring a variety of local acoustic singer-songwriter performances throughout the day.
“This event was developed as a celebration of the City’s love for music, along with the community’s history with beer and wine makers,” said Communications and Community Engagement Director Jenna Vinson. “Throughout the years, the appeal and attraction of this event has evolved, leading to its new name: Saengerfest (which is German for ‘singing festival’). Music, culture, beer, and wine are still a part of this popular downtown event that now incorporates many other diverse elements highlighting New Braunfels’ unique charm.”
Saengerfest-goers will find food trucks, art displays, an artisan market, photo spots, as well as food and beverage seminars. The Hinterhof or ‘backyard’ section of the festival returns this year as the home of the acoustic music stage, with performances by local artists like Lane O’Neal, Monte Good, Caroline Parker, Jeff Vaughan, Teddy Long, Kayla Jane, and Austin Gilliam. New to the festival this year is the Lil Saengers kids’ area with lots of family-friendly activities and entertainment, and the Kuhl Zone where attendees can sit down and cool off!
Wine tasting, craft beer, and souvenir drink glasses will be available for purchase. Proceeds from those sales benefit the New Braunfels Downtown Association and the New Braunfels Parks Foundation for downtown enhancement projects. There are also VIP tickets for sale that include a VIP Preview Party on May 1st at the Landa Park Mini Golf Course with food, drink, and live music from Matt Kirk and the Gueyfarers. VIP tickets also come with souvenir wine glasses, tasting tickets, and access to the air-conditioned VIP Hospitality Retreat during the festival. VIP tickets and wine tasting pre-sales begin March 1st.
The streets around the Main Plaza will be closed, including San Antonio St. (between Academy Ave. and Comal Ave.) and Seguin Ave. (between Coll St. and Mill St.). Free parking and a free park-and-ride shuttle is available at New Braunfels City Hall (located at 550 Landa St.). The shuttle will be available from 11am to 10pm.
