More than 800 trees will be given away for free during this year’s New Braunfels Community Arbor Day celebration! The 2024 event, happening on the heels of National Arbor Day and sponsored by CEMEX, is set for Saturday, April 27th, from 9am until 12pm along Playground Drive in Landa Park.
The New Braunfels Community Arbor Day celebration will feature educational booths and family activities from local partners and City departments as well as the popular free tree giveaway. More than 800 one-gallon trees will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, while supplies last, with only one tree allowed per household. Tree varieties that will be available include Western Soapberry, American Sycamore, American Elm, Texas Buckeye, and Bald Cypress, as well as a variety of native oak tree species. This year’s event will also feature an ‘Ask the Expert’ booth with local tree experts ready to answer all your questions about tree planting and care.
“Events like this one help promote environmental stewardship in our community and impact the health and well-being of residents,” said New Braunfels Parks & Recreation Director Chad Donegan. “We hope residents will take advantage of this opportunity to learn more about native tree species and how to care for the trees around their home and community.”
The City of New Braunfels has been part of the Tree City USA program for more than 35 years, the 7th longest tenure of any city in the state of Texas. Members of Tree City USA have all committed to protecting trees in their community, both economically and administratively with community tree ordinances and a division within the Parks Department dedicated solely to the maintenance and preservation of the city’s trees. Additionally, New Braunfels is home to the William and Dolores Schumann Arboretum, a 1.25-mile walking trail in Landa Park that features over 80 species of trees, making it one of the most diverse arboretums in Texas.
