Drowning Investigation

Media Releases Posted on March 14, 2025

On today’s date (03-14-25), at approximately 3:40pm, the New Braunfels Fire Department and New Braunfels Police Department were called to the 500 block of Peace Avenue at Cypress Bend Park for reports of a possible drowning.

City of New Braunfels Park Rangers were the first to arrive and found that a 12-year old male from San Antonio had been in the river with family when he had gone under the surface of the water for an unknown amount of time. Park Rangers immediately began lifesaving measures until first responders took over those efforts when they arrived at the scene.

The 12-year old victim was transported by ground EMS to Resolute Hospital where he was stabilized and then transported by helicopter to a San Antonio-area hospital in critical condition.

The preliminary investigation indicates no sign of foul play, and that alcohol was not a factor.
