The City of New Braunfels is proud to announce that it has once again earned a Class 1 Public Protection Classification (PPC) from the Insurance Services Office (ISO), the highest possible rating for fire protection services.
The ISO rating, reviewed every five years, is a nationally recognized assessment of a community’s fire suppression capabilities. It ranges from 1 to 10, with Class 1 representing superior fire protection and Class 10 indicating minimal capabilities. The evaluation is based on rigorous criteria outlined in the ISO’s Fire Suppression Rating Schedule (FSRS), which includes assessments of fire department staffing and training, equipment, emergency communications, water supply, and community risk reduction initiatives.
“This is a fantastic achievement for New Braunfels,” said Fire Chief Ruy Lozano. “We are so thankful for the hard work of the Fire Department and City staff who made this top rating possible. It reflects our ongoing commitment to excellence in public safety.”
This prestigious rating brings significant benefits to New Braunfels residents and business owners, including:
- Lower insurance premiums thanks to the city's reduced fire risk classification.
- Enhanced fire protection, translating to quicker emergency response times and improved safety.
- Increased property values, as superior fire services are a key factor for homebuyers and investors.
New Braunfels has maintained a high ISO rating for several years, and the Class 1 designation places it among a select group of cities nationwide, as only a small percentage of fire departments achieve this elite status. The City of New Braunfels continues to invest in maintaining and improving this top-tier rating, and projects like the completion of the Fire Department’s training facility are part of the City’s proactive approach to fire safety and community protection.
