Mayor Neal Linnartz
As we enter July, I’m encouraging all residents of New Braunfels to participate in National Park and Recreation Month. This annual celebration, spearheaded by the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), is a nationwide initiative that recognizes the vital role parks and recreation play in building stronger, healthier, and more connected communities. This year’s theme, “Build Together, Play Together,” speaks perfectly to the spirit of New Braunfels - community that knows the value of working and playing together.
The New Braunfels Parks and Recreation Department has put together an exciting lineup of events designed to get residents of all ages outside, engaged, and enjoying all that our beautiful parks have to offer. Whether it’s a serene morning hike through Panther Canyon or a lively evening at the Landa Park Food Truck Party, there is something for everyone to enjoy!
Family Storytime and Art in the Park happens every Wednesday and Thursday at 9:30am throughout the month of July, at various local parks. These sessions offer parents and kids an opportunity to bond, be creative, and foster a love of storytelling and the arts in a natural setting. You can find the schedule on the City’s website at www.newbraunfels.gov/parks.
Don’t forget our Independence Day festivities, starting with the free Live @ Landa concert at the Landa Park Dance Slab from 6pm to 9pm, followed by the stunning HEB Fireworks Spectacular at 9:15pm. This is a longstanding tradition that brings together families and friends in celebration of our nation and the unique community spirit that defines New Braunfels.
On July 11, cool off with a Snow Cone Party at the Landa Park Aquatic Complex from 1pm to 3pm. This event is the perfect way to beat the summer heat and enjoy some fun in the water. Then, the next morning, on July 12 at 9am, art and history enthusiasts can join Jan Kingsbury for a walking tour of the city’s downtown murals, highlighting the vibrant stories of our community, past and present.
On July 14 at 6pm, we’ll gather at City Hall for a special City Council Proclamation honoring Park and Recreation Month. I invite everyone to attend and show their support for the Parks and Recreation staff who work year-round to make these experiences possible.
Nature lovers won’t want to miss the Panther Canyon Guided Hike on July 19 at 8am, led by the Comal Trails Alliance. This is an excellent opportunity to explore one of our city’s natural treasures while learning more about native plants, wildlife, and the importance of conservation.
On July 25, we celebrate the anniversary of Das Rec, our state-of-the-art recreation center. This all-day event is a thank-you to our members and a showcase of the outstanding programs and facilities available there.
One of the most heartwarming events will take place on July 26 at 9am, when children can engage in Fitness with NBFD Firefighters at the Landa Park Playground. These hometown heroes will guide kids through fun, energetic activities while also sharing important lessons on health and safety.
We’ll wrap up the month in style with the Landa Park Food Truck Party on July 31 from 5pm to 8pm. Playground Drive in Landa Park will be converted into an outdoor food court featuring local food trucks, music, and community fellowship—a perfect summer evening for the whole family.
We really hope you and your family will join the City for one…or all!...of these upcoming events celebrating Park and Recreation month. Our parks are not just green spaces - they’re gathering places, classrooms, gyms, and stages. They are essential to our quality of life, and this July is the perfect time to rediscover them.
