The City of New Braunfels has officially launched the process to update its Parks and Recreation Master Plan which is an essential resource for identifying community needs, assessing the City’s capacity to address them, and setting priorities to guide New Braunfels’ parks system over the next decade. Residents are invited to actively participate in shaping the future of parks and recreation in the community.
“Systemwide master plans typically provide a 5-to-10-year outlook, and the City last completed its plan in 2017,” said City of New Braunfels Park Development Manager Jeff Bransford. “Since then, New Braunfels has experienced significant growth in both population and land use, along with the adoption of a new Citywide Strategic Plan. An updated master plan is necessary to effectively support the needs of our growing community to help us balance priorities and make the best use of resources. That starts with listening to our residents.”
The master plan update process will be led by BerryDunn, the same consulting firm hired to lead the City’s Strategic Plan update. The Parks Master Plan Update will happen in phases, with Fall 2024 dedicated to assessing needs and gathering public input. That includes:
- Public Survey: Residents are asked to share their priorities and preferences for parks and recreation through an online survey which can be found at www.newbraunfels.gov/parksplan.
- Public Open House: On December 12th, from 5:30pm to 7:00pm, City staff will host an open house in the Tejas Room at City Hall (550 Landa Street), offering residents a firsthand look at the project and a chance to engage with the planning team.
- Pop-up Engagement Activities: To maximize public participation, pop-up engagement activities will take place at community events and city facilities.
The process will continue into 2025 with the development of strategies and recommendations, and the plan is expected to be finalized and adopted by summer 2025. For updates on the master plan process including upcoming engagement events, visit www.newbraunfels.gov/parksplan.
