Media Releases Posted on November 14, 2024

On Monday, November 18th, 2024, contractors for the City of New Braunfels will begin work on the Union Street Improvement Project, which includes curb and sidewalk replacements, intersection improvements, and water main replacement by New Braunfels Utilities from San Antonio Street to Lincoln Street. The City’s portion of this project is $1.6 million which is being funded by the voter-approved 2023 Bond. Construction is expected to last into Spring of 2025 (depending on weather and other factors).

The project includes:

  • Replacement of curbs, driveways, sidewalks, and pavement markings for ADA compliance
  • Milling and overlaying from Common Street to San Antonio Street
  • Intersection improvements at Common Street and San Antonio Street, including traffic signals
  • Sidewalk widening at river shuttle stops
  • Water main replacement and other utility infrastructure improvements by New Braunfels Utilities

The contractor, E-Z Bel Construction out of San Antonio, will be working on the entire length of the project with daytime alternating lane closures. Two-way traffic will be maintained throughout the project, with traffic flow being moderated by flaggers and off-duty police officers.
