City of New Braunfels Selects Next Chief of Police

New Braunfels Police Department Posted on January 17, 2025

The City of New Braunfels has selected Osbaldo Flores as the next Chief of Police of the New Braunfels Police Department (NBPD). This follows an extensive and comprehensive search process aimed at finding a strong leader to guide NBPD into the future.

Flores brings more than 27 years of distinguished law enforcement experience to New Braunfels and is currently serving as Assistant Chief with the Arlington Police Department. His leadership background includes managing critical divisions such as Patrol, Recruiting, Community Engagement, Behavioral Health, and Crime Analysis while overseeing a $25 million budget. His experience in tourism-focused policing, particularly within Arlington’s sports and entertainment district, aligns closely with New Braunfels’ unique needs as a popular destination for visitors.

“Flores’ extensive experience and proven leadership in law enforcement, combined with his passion for community engagement, make him an ideal candidate to lead the New Braunfels Police Department,” said City Manager Robert Camareno. “His ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, coupled with his strategic vision for public safety, will be an asset as we navigate the evolving needs of our community. I am confident that Mr. Flores’ leadership and experience will serve New Braunfels well as we continue to prioritize the safety and well-being of our residents and visitors.”

Flores' selection follows a national search process that saw 39 applications submitted. Eighteen candidates were invited to submit screening videos addressing key issues in law enforcement, such as recruiting and retaining officers, as well as balancing community demands with resource constraints. Two review panels evaluated submissions: one comprised of sworn and civilian personnel from NBPD and another consisting of representatives from City Administration, Human Resources, and the Fire Department. Based on the assessments of the video submissions, eight candidates were interviewed for the position, with Flores standing out as the best fit for the position.

Flores’ appointment as New Braunfels Chief of Police is scheduled for confirmation by New Braunfels City Council at their meeting on February 24th, 2025.
