The Citizens Police Academy is an eleven-week course of weekly sessions taught by law enforcement personnel, both civilian and officers, covering a variety of topics like:

  • NBPD's Traffic & Patrol Division
  • History of the New Braunfels Police Department
  • Recruitment/Hiring/Training practices
  • NBPD's K-9 Division
  • NBPD's Criminal Investigation Division (CID)
  • NBPD's 9-1-1 Dispatch Center

Also discussed are things that police officers do while on patrol, working a disturbance, and other job-related functions and the reasons why. Besides the classroom instruction, you will also receive hands-on instruction, including practical problems, firearms participation, and what has been termed as the best of all, the ride-a-long, where you ride with an officer while on actual patrol duties. This program is free, and all items needed for the academy are provided.
