Ride the Rio!


Rio provides flexible, convenient, and affordable rides seven days a week. All rides must be within the Rio Service Area.

Rio operates as a shared van ride, similar to Uber Pool, which can be booked on a smartphone app or by dialing a phone number.

Half of the Rio vehicles are fully accessible so that riders of all abilities can use the service for medical appointments, running errands, or visiting family and friends around the city!

Service Area

Rio Transit can pick up and drop off anywhere inside the New Braunfels service area. It's a door-to-door (or curb-to-curb) service. For trips outside the service area, you can still rely on our regional partner ART (Alamo Regional Transit) to get where you need to go.

Rio operates seven days a week: 7:00 AM – 8:00 PM

Price

Starting January 1, 2026, the fare is a low flat rate of $4 per ride. Senior citizens, veterans, students, and those with disabilities pay only $2 per ride.

Rio is primarily an on-demand service, but pre-booking is available for a select group of eligible riders who require scheduled reliability.

Important update for Alamo Regional Transit (ART) riders

Rio is your new local service for travel within New Braunfels, replacing all local ART trips. This transition began Nov. 18, 2025, and is designed to provide increased flexibility and upgraded convenience. Riders should be assured that they are in good hands with:

  • Continued Local Access: Rio ensures you still have reliable access to the same essential local destinations you rely on, including medical appointments and daily errands.
  • Flexibility & Service: Rio provides you with more flexible, on-demand travel options and enhanced service to help you navigate the city.
  • Pre-Booking Availability: For eligible riders who require scheduled reliability, pre-booking options remain available.
  • Regional Trips: You can still rely on ART for all your regional trips outside the city.
