Join Our Team
The New Braunfels Police Department is looking for high quality individuals to join the ranks of our department. Once hired and upon completion of the field training program, probationary period and a required length of time in patrol, you have the option to pursue a variety of career opportunities, including the Criminal Investigations Division, Traffic Unit, K-9 Unit, and Narcotics Unit. You may also pursue specialized positions such as field training officer, honor guard, S.W.A.T., and Crisis Negotiations Team (CNT). Members of the New Braunfels Police Department are also provided with the latest state-of-the-art equipment, and each receives extensive year-round in-service training both in house, as well as through outside school opportunities. The New Braunfels Police Department also has employment opportunities in Communications, Records, and Support Services for non-sworn civilian personnel.

Compensation & Benefits
In order to become a full time New Braunfels Police Officer you must be at least 21 years old, be a Certified Texas Peace Officer or be eligible for NBPD’s non-certified program, and be able to pass a background check & polygraph exam, psychological evaluation, and physical agility tests. See Chapter 143 of the Texas Local Government Code - Municipal Civil Service for Police Officers and Firefighters.
Compensation
- The first year starting annual base pay for certified police officers is $74,642 with a $3,000 sign-on and retention incentive ($1000.00 per year/3 yrs) for those with less than 3 years of experience.
- Certified police officers with at least 3 years of full-time experience may be considered for a lateral entry program and can be placed up to STEP 10, depending on years of experience. A $5,000 sign-on and retention incentive is available for applicants who meet the lateral criteria. Find the complete Police Department Step Plan on our Compensation & Benefits page.
- Additional pay benefits available for special assignments, bilingual ability, and higher-level education & certification.

Minimum Qualifications
For Certified Police Officers: Must have a minimum certification of a Peace Officers License from Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) in good standing and/or have passed the TCOLE State License Exam no later than the time and date of the written examination. There is no degree requirement for certified applicants.
For Non-Certified Officers - Minimum Requirements
- Have a minimum of thirty (30) hours earned from a regionally accredited university and/or college, which are accepted and/or recognized by the (TCOLE)
- and/or two (2) years of active military service
- and/or have a minimum of six (6) years of reserve status with the Armed Services or National Guard prior to the time and date of the written examination.
Automatic Disqualifiers
- Any felony conviction
- Any convictions for a Misdemeanor above the level of Class C in the past ten years
- Marijuana usage within the past three (3) years
- Illicit drug usage other than marijuana within the past ten (10) years
