[ARCHIVED] Engineered Details

Purpose:

To clarify when engineered details for monument signs or pole signage are required.

Scope:

IBC Section H105.1 Signs shall be designed and constructed to comply with theprovisions of this code for use of materials, loads and stresses.

IBC Section H105.2 Where a permit is required, as provided in Chapter 1, construction documents shall be required. These documents shall show the dimensions, material andrequired details of construction, including loads, stresses and anchors.

Engineered details shall be required for structures such as retaining walls,monument signs or pole signage if over 4 feet in height.

Summary:

The Building Code does not identify a specific height as to when engineered details are required; therefore, the interpretation is that engineered details are required regardless of height.

As an exemption, engineered details are required, if the referenced structures areover 4 feet in height.
